SB1070

April 23rd, 2010, another day which will live in infamy. Governor Jan Brewer passed SB1070 with the seemingly positive name "Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act."

Behind the smoke screen to support law enforcement and making neighborhoods safe, there's a rage inside of me wanting to scream out "What the fuck?" Why don't you call it the "Bye Bye Brownies" Act or maybe Vamos Mexicans! How about Yay Racial Profiling? This Bill will make it a duty of law enforcement to verify anyone that they have reasonable suspicion to believe that are in the United States illegally and verify their citizenship/immigration status.

This is a slippery slope. People are up in arms about it , and rightfully so. Let's just hope this fire is put out quickly and publicly.

RAAAAAAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEEEE!

Introduction to my Mindset

I'm Mexican, born in Houston, Texas, but I'm of the belief that Mom (Mexican) + Dad (Mexican) = Me (Mexican), unless you correlate it as some weird multiplication where -1*-1=1. Too much to think about. I'm of Mexican descent, but I am of the American nationality. Even oddly enough, of the Texas mindset. If all this is confusing, you should see the udder look of concentration as I try to convey this cloud of beliefs into text.

I grew up in Alamo, between North 9th and North 10th, between Duranta and Birch. Yes I grew up in the Housing Projects. Moved to Weslaco right when I hit high school, graduated a Panther. Since then I've studied for a bit, worked and moved to Austin for the last 7 years. I wouldn't classify myself as a writer, just as a typer with a self proclaimed sense of humor, wit, and spare time to nurture it.

I keep in touch with the valley via word of mouth and technologies (Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, texts). A big chunk of my family both on my mother's and fathers side is either in The Valley or in Mexico. I have opinions and I voice them as individual opinions.

Here I hope to just accomplish to highlight overall points of interest and my thoughts on the subject. I encourage everyone to voice their opinions.

"The act of putting pen to paper encourages pause for thought, this in turn makes us think more deeply about life, which helps us regain our equilibrium."
